The music rights were acquired by Think Music On 22 January 2017, The film production team has announced the news that Vishnu Thyagarajan has replaced Rajinikanth post "Kurukshetra". Rajinikanth is busy with his theatre tour of Europe and Canada, while directing Shankar's "Kaala". Kurukshetra received generally negative reviews from critics. Rediff gave the movie 2 out of 5 stars stating that ""Kurukshetra" is a shame. It is a film that has no story, no screenplay and no vision." Behindwoods gave the movie 2.5 stars out of 5 stating that "Kurukshetra" is a "Dull Journey from Rajinikanth" and that it fails to bring out the "touch of the master magician who could make us believe in his masterpieces."
